RepresentationTrent Tate is free of gallery representation - December, 2006We will post more on this later, but for right now the only information available is that Trent Tate is no longer officially showing work with any of the galleries that have represented him in the past. He is pleased to be free of contract or obligation to any gallery or dealer. Please note that any gallery or dealer claiming to represent Tate is not doing so in compliance with the artist’s wishes. We do hope the best for all of the galleries that have shown Tate’s work in the past, and we encourage them to commit themselves to their highest calling of finding, displaying and promoting the good work of worthy artists, both known and unknown, whose efforts will benefit public awareness and inspire good thoughts and deeds.
Volitant GalleryGrand Opening of the new home gallery for works by Trent Tate - May 11, 2006The Grand Opening of Volitant Gallery was the art event of the year in Austin. Trent Tate returned to his hometown with his newest collection of egg temperas, a print series done in collaboration with Gary Nichols of Hare and Hound Press, and a stunning exhibit of his mastery of draftsmanship and storytelling presented through images and words recounting the true story of William Radam, one of Austin's most intriguing historical figures. The show was beautifully displayed on the rotating walls of Volitant Gallery adorned with Tate’s work dressed in innovative frames designed by the artist and Corinne Patch of Silverleaf Framing. Critics used words like "exquisite" and "sublime" to describe the show, and one museum director told the gallery manager that it was the "best art opening he had ever seen in Austin." Volitant Gallery, the new home in Austin, Texas for Trent Tate's work, is located in the historic J & S Koppel building. Located on the southwest corner of Congress Avenue and 4th Street, the Koppel building was completed in 1888 and stands as one of Austin's most elegant reminders of our beautiful city's past. PrintsTrent Tate collaborates with Master Printer, Gary Nichols, on a new printmaking projectTrent Tate collaborated with Gary Nichols, one of the most talented Master Printers in America to create a series of prints based on his egg tempera paintings from 2005. Tate shares Nichols' appreciation for the tradition of printmaking as well as his enthusiasm for the exciting opportunities in the new realm of digital printing. At the heart of this collaboration is the uncompromising pursuit for unique artistic digital re-creations based on Trent Tate's paintings. The goal was not merely to create reproductions of Tate’s paintings, but rather, to a craft new works of art in their own right in limited editions of signed and numbered Fine Art prints privileged with the exclusive “Hare & Hound” embossed emblem. Each print was developed through an involved process of isolating the elements of a painting digitally, then manipulating those elements in layers which are finally merged back together as a new interpretation. These Limited Edition Fine Art Prints were unveiled at the grand opening of Volitant Gallery in Austin, Texas on May 11, 2006. For insight into Nichols' ideas on printmaking today, you can read more at the Hare & Hound Press site.
